  1. Never played with one – but I feel I could just as well train with the regular/thinner paddles I already play with and that have a smaller sweet spot.

  2. I bought one a few weeks ago and was surprised how well I did. I started just doing warm ups (dinks, lobs and serves) but today I played 3 games with it. The friends I played with were surprised how well I did. I’ve been out for a couple of months healing from a sprained wrist and this was the first time I really used my non-dominant hand without much pain. Apparently, I hit the sweet spot more often than I thought. But when I do miss the spot I tend to miss it entirely – no lucky edge shots! You also don’t get the same satisfying sound when the ball strikes the paddle. I like the idea of weighted tape for the paddle because it is quite a bit lighter than my usual paddle. I’m a beginner (less than 10 months) and have been playing with a cheap online purchased paddle until I knew what I liked/needed. This trainer has shown me that (1) I like the longer handle for two-handed back swings and (2) a lighter paddle is really better for me since I’m a smaller person with less muscular arms. Hopefully that helps someone. Thanks GearUp for the video!

  3. I have a Franklin trainer. REALLY glad I got it—it really helps dial in the hand-eye stuff! I sometimes use it for wall drilling in conjunction with the Bzer ball. Just got tungsten tape and yes definitely intend to put some on my trainer.

  4. I picked up a Warping Point trainer recently (I like their paddles and their customer service is rad). I have been using it in open play and I’ve found that I become a bit more focused on knowing where the paddle is. My only issue is that I don’t know what it’s made from so I have been using it more to practice with than play solely because I don’t want to be using what could be giving me a power advantage because of what it is made of inside. Waiting to hear back from WP to see if it’s standard inside of anything different.

  5. Training paddles absolutely help your game. Your rec’d to weight your training paddle so it weighs the equiv. of your actual paddle is very important. I also backup and hit groundstrokes, specifically forehands with the training paddle and it really forces me to hit the ball using a “no peaky” swing where I watch the ball through contact. Franklin and Holbrook are my preferred training paddle brands.
